An introduction to silver jewellery-making - five sessions; morning or evening
Join me for a gentle introduction to silver jewellery-making over five mornings or evenings. It was through attendance at several of these kinds of classes that I fell in love with silversmithing and I'd love to share that with you too! These sessions are much like my beginner jewellery-making experiences, but stretched over a longer period of time than just a day. And it's an opportunity to meet other folk interested in learning too (up to my maximum workshop size of 6).
How it works:
These sessions are designed so that you can join anytime and continue coming for as long as you want. Your initial payment of £160 buys you five morning or evening consecutive weekly sessions. If you need to miss a particular week, then you can attend a later one instead. If, once you've attended five sessions, you'd like to continue coming, you can do so on a weekly basis at a discounted price of £25 a session, assuming there is space.
NOTE: Saturday morning sessions do not necessarily run every week. Specific dates for the 5 sessions are as follows:
MAY/JUNE: 9th, 16th, 23rd May & 6th, 13th June.
AUGUST: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd August & 5th Sept.
If you decide you want to keep coming after the 5 introductory Saturday sessions are completed then we can discuss which dates are available.
AND NEW FOR 2026....
Introduction to silver jewellery-making intensive 3 day course in August.
If you can't make the regular sessions, maybe you'd like to dedicate three days in the summer instead? Here we will cover exactly the same things as in the 5 session course, but instead you will do this over three full days as follows:
Monday 3rd August 10.30am - 4.00pm, Tuesday 4th August 10.30am - 4pm and Friday 5th August 10.30am - 2pm.
What we will cover:
During your course, I will show you a range of basic techniques that are fundamental to silversmithing. These include saw piercing, drilling, filing and sanding, soldering, shaping and texturing. You will also learn how to finish and polish your pieces.
What you will make:
You'll create all sorts of samples as you try different techniques and practise using the skills you are being taught. At the beginning, you will be invited to think about the piece, or pieces you might like to try to create during your time at the Studio. We will bear this in mind as I introduce you to different techniques. Because there are a maximum of 6 people in each class, we are able to flex what we do, to take into account what individual people might like to try.
The price includes use of all tools and equipment and practice metals (usually copper). Over the course, we will build up to making something of your own choice and design, and if you choose to make this in silver, then this will be an additional cost (calculated on the basis of current silver prices). Or you can just try making different things on different sessions. It's really up to you.
Morning sessions run 10.00am - 12.30pm and evening sessions are 6.30pm - 9.00pm.
If you're not sure about committing to a whole five weeks, then why not consider the Beginner jewellery-making experiences that I offer?
